The NBC Gardens

The ultimate goal of the NBC program is to build capacity for Us to feed Us. Toward that end, we’ve created a distributed model for the NBC gardens which allows for the community garden to be hosted at multiple locations owned by PGM around Jefferson county.

In the southern part of the county the , the NBC garden is being generously hosted on a Black-owned property in Quilcene. In the eastern region of the county, specifically Port Townsend, the community garden is being hosted by Black-owned North Star Grove. We are hoping to have a garden in the western part of the region in the next couple years.

This model meets two aims of the program. The first is accessibility. The closer the garden is to where someone lives or works, the more likely they are to participate. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, a closer proximity allow for the cultivation of a more Afro-Indigneous formation to the land and an agroecological approach that allows for more integrated system of food and cultural resilience.
